The BBC competition officially got underway with its first live show on Saturday (September 26), when EastEnders actress Lacey and her dance partner Vito Coppola impressed viewers with their cha-cha-cha to Whitney Houston’s hit song ‘How Will I Know?’. The pair received the series’ first standing ovation and achieved an impressive combined score of 27 points from the judges.
Following their successful debut, Lacey and Vito returned to rehearsals on Monday (September 28) to prepare their second routine ahead of the show’s first elimination. However, during a well-earned lunch break, Vito was left completely baffled when Lacey revealed her unusual habit of adding crisps to her sandwich.
Vito captured the amusing moment on his Instagram Story, adding the caption, “Sorry, what is this? Crisp sandwich.” He filmed Lacey as she prepared her unusual lunch.
The Italian dancer could be heard saying, “Well, we’ve got our lunch break, and is this something I cannot…,” as he watched what she was doing, according to Wales Online.
When the camera turned towards Lacey, she happily said, “I’m so happy right now,” before tipping a packet of crisps onto her plate. Vito then remarked in disbelief, “The crisps are with the sandwich.”
As Lacey picked up her sandwich, she explained, “You need to put them in,” prompting Vito to ask, “No, you put the crisps in the sandwich?”
“Yes, and then you get a crunch,” Lacey replied. Clearly puzzled, Vito asked, “Why is that? I don’t think you’re supposed to do that. Is this an English thing?” Looking at his own sandwich, Vito added, “I’m going to stick with this. A crisp sandwich doesn’t exist,” while Lacey laughed and told him, “You haven’t lived.”
As none of the 15 celebrities were eliminated from the competition on Saturday, their scores will be carried over to next week’s leaderboard. Lacey and Vito currently sit in third place with 27 points.
At the top of the table are YouTuber John Nellis and Katya Jones, who have scored 31 points. Australian singer Delta Goodrem and her professional partner Kai Widdrington are in second place with 29 points.
Meanwhile, Gavin and Stacey star Melanie Walters and Aljaz Skorjanec are at the bottom of the leaderboard with 15 points. The series’ first live show also marked the presenting debuts of Emma Willis, Josh Widdicombe and former professional dancer Johannes Radebe.
Although the trio had appeared on screen the previous week during the launch show, that programme had been recorded in advance. Saturday’s broadcast therefore marked their first time presenting the competition live in front of millions of viewers at home.
